Overview
Echo Optimizer is the proprietary transportation management system at the core of Echo Global Logistics' $4.3B order-to-cash operation. The platform handles order intake, carrier selection, execution, and settlement for millions of shipments annually. My work focused on modernizing the platform to reduce manual intervention and improve throughput.
The Problem
A proprietary TMS supporting billions in annual operations had accumulated years of technical debt. Manual processes were embedded throughout the order lifecycle — from intake through settlement. The system couldn't keep pace with volume growth without adding headcount, and the manual touchpoints introduced errors and delays that affected carrier relationships and customer satisfaction.
My Role

The Solution
Led a modernization effort that introduced NLP and OCR automation to handle document intake and data extraction, reducing manual keying across the order lifecycle. Built API integrations with carrier systems to automate status updates, exception detection, and settlement workflows. Worked across product, engineering, and operations to identify the highest-leverage manual touchpoints and systematically eliminate them.
The Outcome
Throughput improved and manual intervention rates decreased across the $4.3B order-to-cash operation. The platform was better positioned to scale volume without proportional headcount growth, and the automation investments improved data quality throughout the order lifecycle.
